We have heard the news about Ebola and the news is not getting any better. In addition, there is always the chance for natural or human made disasters. So, what if you need to Bug-In because of restricted travel or you are told to ‘shelter-in -place’, or natural, or human made disasters? What are some of the items you may need to be able to live in your home for several days or longer?
The following is a short list of supplies to keep on hand just in case:
- Plenty of Canned foods (stock your pantry well)
- Plenty of water enough for at least a gallon a day per person
- Baking soda (excellent for cleaning and other uses)
- Baby shampoo for washing hair and body (in case the water is turned off)
- Toothpaste
- Hand sanitizers and disinfectants
- An outdoor BBQ grill
- Plenty of charcoal
- Lighters
- First aid kit
- Flashlights (plenty of flashlights)
- Battery operated radio
- Emergency crank radio
- Lots of batteries in case electricity goes out
- Duct tape
- Clean blankets
- Clean pillows
- Clean linen
- Plenty of Candles
- Board games and deck of cards
- Candy
- Cash
- Any medicines you take regularly
The list above is only a short list and is to serve as suggestions a starting point. You will need to tailor your supplies for the individual needs of you and your family. Do not wait until something happens it will be too late. Be prepared now just in case something happens and you must Bug-In. Stock up on the items you and your family will need, start a list as soon as possible and get started.
